A conceptual costume design for The Caucasian Chalk Circle by Bertolt Brecht. I set the play within in the play in the Yuan Dynasty because Brecht's play was derived from the 14th-century Chinese play Circle of Chalk by Li Xingdao. That is why Grusha, Natella and Simon have traditional Yuan Dynasty inspired costumes. The 'frame' play is set in the Soviet Union and that is why The Singer - the mediator and storyteller - is dressed in a Soviet Union inspired costume.
